I've created sope gnumakefiles to be compatible for gnustep-make 2.0.

Yes. =20
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/
But pretty much it boils down to "is everything where a recently trained
Linux admin would expect it to be." Configs in /etc, binaries in /bin,
service binaries in /sbin, blah blah.=20

I'm not nearly versed in the technology enough to have an opinion. :)
My gut reaction comes from the fact that I was subscribed to the
GNU-step project for awhile and it just doesn't appear to be going
anywhere; at least from the perspective of an ignoramus.

Yea, I'm not a big fan either; the whole environment feels hacked
together and building any decently sized Java app always seems an order
of magnitude more complicated that it should be; DLL hell replaced by
CLASSPATH hell. =20
But whatever, it does work and as a language it is a spitting distance
from most others. It sure as anything beats doing assembly language on
a cluster of Z80 processors - now *THAT* is awful. The first machine I
worked on for $$$$ was a mini-computer that consisted of a cluster of 32
Z-80 processors managed by a central 80186 processor that moved data
over "the network" via interrupt driven bank-switching - Ahhhhhh!
<aside>The documentation was top-notch! :)</aside>
Java is beautiful!
