i then remove it from the install...

i could:

1) suppress the removal message or
2) make a note explaining.

your call, chris.

also, i'd like to add a suse version check to the script.
i don't run suse so maybe you could tell me where the distro version info is
located.

redhat's distro info i use in in /etc/redhat-release.
this tells the script to add the line:

export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 to .bash_profile

while we're on the topic... i could add a check for every distro
if the community could tell me where to look and what to look for.
