Yes, I think this should help a lot (though reading Perl code isn't
much better than reading HTTP traffic ;-).

It would be cool if the script would maintain an offline cache of the
data for both, offline use and increased speed. This would make it a
valuable tool even when ZideStore supports all the API.

Yes, SOPE supports the subscribe extension and has an object to track
the requests. But ZideStore doesn't send out notifications currently.
The is a small tool in SOPE/sope-core/samples called httpu_notify.m
which you might want to take a look at.
