The wording is wrong. Outlook 2000 only supports POP3 in combination  
with thirdparty plugins. ZideStore doesn't do any mail stuff.

Starting with Outlook 2002 you can run IMAP4/other storage providers  
in combination (AFAIK even with some specific Outlook 98 versions).

See above. Its "mostly" a missing Outlook feature (mostly because we  
could also implement mail in ZideLook instead of relying on builtin  
mail support, but this doesn't make a lot of sense ...)

Summary: if you want to use IMAP4, you need Outlook 2002 or 2003.
