    Thanks for the reply. When I try to use sogod to start the service, 
I get the following error:

defaults read: couldn't read default

    I looked at the contents of the sogod script and I tracked the 
source of the problem to be the "defaults" program from GNUstep. It 
appears that it is not looking in 
$HOME/GNUstep/Defaults/.GNUstepDefaults for my settings. Any suggestions 
on how to fix that?
