I am running OGO 1.1.6 Ubuntu Dapper 6.06. I initially set up OGO and it ran without a hitch, but I then I didn't have time to play with it. I used the ogo-remove-instance to remove the existing instance and then ran ogo-create instance thusly: Username (ogo): ogo-bearden Home directory (/var/lib/opengroupware.org): /home/ogo-bearden Web user interface version (1.1): Zidestore version (1.5): XMLRPC daemon version (1.1): Network Hotsync daemon version (none): Automatically configure the database? (yes): Database host (localhost): Database port (5432): Database user (ogo): ogo-bearden Database user's password: hithere Database name (ogo): ogo-bearden Web user interface port (20000): Zidestore port (21000): XMLRPC daemon port (22000): The creation seems to complete successfully as long as I specify a password. I assume that I am designating a password instead of just getting lucky or something. I restart postgresql, apache2, and ogo, and when I go to http://localhost/ogo-bearden I get: --------------------------------------------------------------------- The SKYRIX application server could not connect to the database server ! Please ensure that your database server is running and that the LSConnectionDictionary default is correctly set. Current database configuration: database: ogo server: localhost user: ogo ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Can anybody please help me out? I've tried purging opengroupware.org-environment and reinstalling, which looks like it installs the standard instance, but I get the same error. A more long term issue is when I create multiple instances, what exactly needs to be different? I figure user name, home directory, database, and web user interface port. Is that all? The web user interface port needs to be different as well as the Zidestore and XMLRPC port. The database port can be the same - as long as the user is different, and it points to a different set of tables. (I think that's what you said you were doing) Make sure that the script sets up the proper defaults. It seems like the webui is missing some of it's configuration. SSL is entirely an Apache thing, it can't really effect OGo one way or the other. Are you using virtual hosting? My initial guess would be you crossed some wired in you Apache config files in the process of enabling SSL. Look for authentication related directives (OGo authenticates itself, Apache doesn't need to do so). Apparently the init script isn't really killing ogo services. But if I run "ps -eaf | grep -i open" I can find and kill them by hand. It is also a fatal idea to name your instance with a hyphen. IOW, "ogo-apha" and "ogo-beta" is bad, while "ogoaplpha" and "ogobeta" is OK. So anyway, as usual it seems with OGO, except for the quirks ogo is pretty easy. We have a lot of contact, project, task, and billable time information that I would like to import into OGO. I am fairly handy with Perl and DBI, so I am hoping to write a script to import that information directly into the ogo database. I have two basic questions. The first one is, is that a generally a good idea? I am a bit worried that id's might get out of sync if I update one table and not another, or fail to update an audit trail, or who knows what. If I manage to figure out where data should go, how much danger is there in just inserting that information? The second question is that, after A) figuring out PostgreSQL a bit and B) taking a peek at the database I seem to be missing something. I mean, there seems to be tables that correspond to news, contacts, companies, projects, etc. But there doesn't appear to be dedicated tables for appointments, tasks, and times. Can somebody please point me in the right direction for this? I did have libobjc-ogo1 and the latest sope installed. Upgrading to 1.1.6 had caused apt to remove 1.0, and that may have messed up the libraries. Ldconfig as root fixed everything. Thanks again for the help, Adam! Have yourselves a great weekend! /Mike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! We should have this up and running is a few days. Probably mid week next as all parties are currently preoccupied with assigned work. All users are stored in the ldap database, and the system uses nss_ldap to authenticate directly off the ldap database. I have quite a few questions, which I am hoping I can get answers to. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. Can OGO read users from this ldap database directly, or do they have to be stored in the postgres database? Can OGO use mysql instead of postgres for a more lightweight installation? I already have contacts stored in the ldap database (global address book, and personal address books). Can OGO use these as address book sources? Does OGO have plugins for courier to write mailfilter files and setup autoresponders? I created a few test appointments, and tried downloading my calendar from the zidestore, but it seems to come out with no details in it: http://chrisp:*password*@192.168.20.4/zidestore/so/chrisp/Calendar/calendar= .ics -------- BEGIN:VCALENDAR METHOD:REQUEST PRODID:-//OpenGroupware.org/ZideStore 1.3// VERSION:2.0 --------- Is this a bug in my setup or understanding? Not currently. =20 http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D1621 But the advantages of having the contacts in groupware is overwhelming =20 (they can be associated with projects, etc...) It is probably reacting to the user-agent you sent it. If I - curl =20 http://adam:*********@gourd-amber/zidestore/sar/calendar.ics - I get =20 iCalendar output. BTW - curl =20 http://adam:*******@gourd-amber/zidestore/so/adam/Calendar/ics is the =20 same thing. It also matters when your appointments are; doing an ics request =20 doesn't render ALL of your events, just the ones within the last =20 couple months and a year (?) into the future. This is to save the =20 server from generating massive result sets and that window is =20 adjustable. > Would I use evolution to connect to this webcal:// or http:// URL, or > is there a specific evolution zidestore connector? There is an evolution [GroupDAV] connector for 2.8. The problem with =20 webcal:// is that 'traditional' iCalendar is a really crappy groupware =20 solution, it treats calendars as objects rather then events as =20 objects. This causes no end of problems. > Are there demo versions of the outlook connector available - I will > probably be reselling many if this works. No, but it is pretty cheap. > Can tasks be shared to evolution/outlook? I don't know about the Evo connector supporting tasks as I don't have =20 Evo 2.8. But, yes, the same tasks appear in Outlook, the Web UI, via =20 the XML-RPC API, etc... Of course what you can do is limited by the =20 front-end you choose; Outlooks and Evolutions tasks management is =20 both pretty primitive - no delegation, etc... - just a description and =20 done/not-done; this isn't a limitation of OGo but of Outlook & =20 Evolution. Makes sense. I have configured my server to auth via ldap, and that seems to work fine. My next question is how to automatically set up the user account so that he does not need to enter his email address and servername for imap connection. Are there defaults I can set for this? I will look into this - the final goal is to share the contact information with the 'fat' clients (outlook/evolution/etc), so the mechanism does not matter as long as it works. However, I do need to be able to *edit* the contacts via evo and outlook. I think InstantOGo provides this out of the box; with 'standard' OpenGroupware you have to build it yourself. You should as Evolution/GroupDAV specific questions over on the GroupDAV list. http://www.groupdav.org/mailinglist.html GroupDAV is the "standard" for groupware interoperability and is supported by OGo's ZideStore, as well as several other servers (Citadel, etc...) The connector for Evo is a GroupDAV connector and not specifically OGo. Then this is really what you want, as only Evolution supports writing to LDAP. Outlook and/or WAB don't support updating LDAP. The XML-RPC API, WebDAV, GroupDAV (in general), RSS, and whatever bundles you want to build into ZideStore (building a ZideStore bundle is pretty trivial if you are a decent programmer). > So we have: > * Outlook Connector - I don't run windows. But "/Overview/ics" is probably what you really want. No, you can't type this into a web browser; it won't work. ZideStore detects you are a web browser and responds differently. Using curl, wget, or any other generic HTTP request should work. > So I suppose I am asking for help in getting an ical file out, and other > solutions to get information out. Thanks guys! After a bit of fiddling I managed to get Evolution 2.6 to view my ogo calendar with: webcal://ogouser:password@server:80/zidestore/so/ogouser/Overview/ics I couldn't get the CalDav flavor working no matter much I fiddled. Unfortunately Evolution 2.8 isn't an option for me at work since we all have standardized on Ubuntu Dapper for the forseeable future. And to give you an idea of what I am up against, the blokes I work with mostly still use mutt and unlike me they really don't see shared contacts and calendars as worth the effort. So I figure if I can give them a prepackaged taste (Sunbird and mutt/LDAP right now maybe, they seem to find web apps especially distasteful for some reason) they might jump on the groupware bandwagon completely when we upgrade to a distro that has Evolution 2.8. The next step for me is getting LDAP working to pull contacts out of OGO. Has anybody actually done that? Yep, I don't know the 'official state' of CalDAV support but it doesn't work with any of the clients I've tried (Sunbird, Mulberry). > give you an idea of what I am up against, the blokes I work with mostly > still use mutt and unlike me they really don't see shared contacts and > calendars as worth the effort. Note that calendaring with a simple iCalendar client like Sunbird creates a set of issues of its own. http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=973 http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=507 http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=596 http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1606 > The next step for me is getting LDAP working to pull contacts out of > OGO. Has anybody actually done that? Yep, InstantOGo does that. Also there were instructions [by me] in the docs plone for using OpenLDAP's back-sql to publish OGo information via LDAP. Note that my instructions are for an older version of OpenLDAP, so it would require tweaking to make it work on a newer version. Today however Penrose would probably be an easier route; I haven't had time to try that yet. No, I think it is just a matter of simplicity; keeping the UI from looking like a widget bomb went off. As far as I can tell the person::qsearch command (used internally to actually do the search) can search on just about any field/sub-field. > I created a custom boolean value input field for contacts, but how do i search > for it? This ["(contactId={me})] should be *trivial* to implement, probably just WebUI stuff since - #!/usr/bin/env python import xmlrpclib, pprint server = xmlrpclib.Server('http://adam:*********@localhost/RPC2') fetchSpec = {} fetchSpec['qualifier'] = "contactId = 27190" result = server.person.fetch(fetchSpec) pprint.pprint(result) - already works, so the required command logic must be completely in place. Like: "((ownerid == {me}) && (isPrivate = 1))" ? Although this wouldn't be completely true as I believe ACLs trump the privacy flag; and I suspect ownerId == primary user is less frequently true then one suspects (since owner == creator). Yes. (ownerid={me}) was the main issue with this customer, used to oultook. (isPrivate = 1) was the request of the executive assistants who have sensitive data not to be exposed to the rest of the enterprise. OGo also does not handle public & private address as well as public & private phone the way corporations expect. Private info should be kept restricted. With OGo, either you show all or you hide all. ACL for instance, applies to the whole record. One can think I am splitting hairs here, but believe me, privacy is a personnal security issue for many, many people and is taken very seriously (from inconveniences to threats). I'd guess that the SkyContactSubEditor is what you want. I'm only learning this whole WebObjects thing but it seems like you could drop that into the page. SkyContactSubEditor is referenced as "<#ContactEditor/>" in SkyPersonEditor.html to provide the little contact selector widget. In SkyPersonEditor.wod it looks like - ContactEditor: SkyContactSubEditor { document = person; } I wonder if you dropped it in LSWPersonAdvancedSearch.wod as something like: ContactEditor: SkyContactSubEditor { } - and referenced it in LSWPersonAdvancedSearch.html what would happen. (?) Probably won't work but it would be interesting. I'd try it myself but my test rig is currently buggered up with a different problem. > > result = server.person.fetch(fetchSpec) > > pprint.pprint(result) > > - already works, so the required command logic must be completely in > > place. > (...) > >> As for a search inside the contacts you own, this has been the major > >> reason for a customer to drop OGo as they were not able to manage > >> privacy the way users like (read: "my contacts are for me and not for > >> you, period"). > > Like: "((ownerid == {me}) && (isPrivate = 1))" ? > Yes. In part I think it depends on how you interpret "private phone". We've always taken it to mean residential phone number. I'm not certain what a "private" phone number would be, if you can see the contact record why wouldn't you be allowed to call them? The only issue I can see with this operationally is that OGo is not suitable for use as an HR/Payroll system as regulation in many places require specific elements of an entry to be restricted. It should not be overly complicated. The biggest thing is that you need to have quite a big UI to specify the person you want to search for (its a searchfield inside the searchfield ...). Though if you just want to search for the logged-in account this should be rather easy (just a checkbox whether you want to restrict the search to the owner/contact). The problem was apache had the "DAV on" directive on the root directory. Ed. I haven't tested this in awhile since 1.0a, which worked then. Now that I have a new palm pilot, that can do network syncs and wifi, I want to set this up again. But there only seems to be a test conduit in the latest package. Is the Palm functionality broken at this point? I tried copying the conduit from 1.0 to 1.1, and that doesn't work. Is the Palm functionality broken > at this point? I tried copying the conduit from 1.0 to 1.1, and that doesn't work. It is broken as a result of changes to current Palm firmware / applications / database format. http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1638 http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1811 This issue goes all the way down to the pilot-link libraries used to interface with the Palm database format: http://www.pilot-link.org/node/166 - "Add support for the new OS5 and later PIM applications". This may have been resolved by the pilot-link package by this point but not everything has been modified up-stream yet. I think the better, and more modern/standardized, solution is to use the Synthesis SyncML client for the Palm and the Funambol DS server with the GroupDAV connector. A new version of this was released just this morning - http://mail.opengroupware.org/pipermail/groupdav/2006-December/000447.html http://bionicmessage.net/funambol/index.html I've only tested the previous version (which only supported events, unlike the current version) but it worked quite well. This solution also works with Windows Mobile devices [the clear future as Palm seems content to let its technology languish] as well as just about everything else. Discussion of GroupDAV sync belongs over on the groupdav@ list as it isn't really OpenGroupware specific. http://www.groupdav.org/mailinglist.html From users@opengroupware.org Thu Dec 21 01:22:53 2006 From: users@opengroupware.org (Chris Dos) Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2006 18:22:53 -0700 Subject: [OGo-Users] NHSD and Palm Syncing In-Reply-To: <1166555336.4296.18.camel@aleph.whitemice.org> References: <4586DDAD.8000200@chrisdos.com> <45882E5E.90301@chrisdos.com> <1166555336.4296.18.camel@aleph.whitemice.org> Message-ID: <4589E1ED.6080909@chrisdos.com> > It is broken as a result of changes to current Palm firmware / > applications / database format. > > http://bugzilla.opengroupware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cg
