debian:/home/jan# ps ax | grep postmaster
2425 ? S 0:00 /usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/postmaster -D
/var/lib/postgresql/7.4/main
2458 ? S 0:00 /usr/lib/postgresql/8.1/bin/postmaster -D
/var/lib/postgresql/8.1/main -c
config_file=/etc/postgresql/8.1/main/postgresql.conf
4634 pts/1 R+ 0:00 grep postmaster
This must be the Default setting for Debian Etch ... I just did a clean
install last week and other than try to get Ogo working haven't changed a
thing.

You have two versions of PostgreSQL running concurrently??? "ps ax |
grep postmaster" shows two processes?
If this is actually true I'd recommend just uninstalling 7.4. There is
really no reason to still be running what is [at this point] a rather
clunky version of PostgreSQL.
