I haven't heavily tested OGo on 8.2;  but on my laptop it connects and
works with 8.2.4 (openSUSE 10.3).   Is your database in LATIN1 or UTF8?
Current versions of OGo use UTF8,  and using a LATIN1 database can cause
errors.  See the FAQ section of the PostgreSQL chapter of WMOGAG.
