I cannot agree with you. I think Tauno is correct. Under the GPL it is
allowed to charge your customer, this is true. But under the GPL, the
one who has got the Software can than sell it or give it away without
earning money, just as he wants. And this is clearly not compatible with
the above mentioned statement "... to pay the author ...".
Summary: You can sell GPL software to a price as high as you want, but
your customer can also sell it or even give it away for free! This is at
least how I have understood the GPL.
