Yes, that was exactly the problem. Re-compiling in /usr/local solved the
problems when trying to compile OGo. System's running fine now! :-)

Another related question: Because of internal software installation
guides, I would need to install at least the OGo software itself under
e.g. /opt/app/ogo - is THIS possible somehow?

For now, I installed it under /usr/local as well, and that works fine, but
I guess my boss won't like that too much...

Will I likely be getting into trouble when I recompile for /opt/app/ogo,
or is the OGo part different (i.e. doesn't care) with this, contrary to
sope?
